Smt. Kiran Choudhry

Smt Kiran Choudhry is the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP). Earlier, she was Haryana’s Cabinet Minister for Excise and Taxation & Public Health Engineering Minister from January 28, 2011 till October, 2014 and Minister of State for Forest, Environment, Tourism and Sports from January 14, 2006 to 2009.

Smt Choudhry scored a hat trick as the representative of the Tosham Assembly Constituency in 2014. She was elected for the first time to the Haryana State Legislative Assembly in 2005 by a record number of votes, creating a World record. She was Congress candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections from Haryana Assembly in 2004. Smt Choudhry was the Deputy Speaker of Delhi Vidhan Sabha from 1998 to 2003. She was AICC Member and General Secretary of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee between 1989 and 2005. She has also been Delegate PCC, Delhi Cantonment, General Secretary, All India Mahila Congress and Spokesperson DPCC.

Smt Choudhry has been conferred honours over her distinguished political career. These include Priyadarshini Award for the outstanding works, Achievements and contribution and the Best MLA Award for Outstanding Legislature Award in Delhi Vidhan Sabha, Delhi conferred by the Speaker, Lok Sabha.

An advocate by profession, she has practiced extensively in all branches of law. She has practiced in the Supreme Court of India, Delhi High Court, Central Excise, MRTPC, National Commission and other forums. Smt Choudhry has represented various multinational and international organisations in India and abroad. She is on the panel of International Arbitrators and is an active member of the Indian Council of Arbitrators. Smt Choudhry was born on June 5, 1955 to Mrs and Brigadier (Retd) Atma Singh. She is wife of Late Ch. Surender Singh, ex-Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and (Minister of Revenue & Agriculture, Haryana) and belongs to the prestigious political family of Ch. Bansi Lal, former Chief Minister of Haryana State (also former Union Minister of Defence, Railway and Transport).

Her daughter Smt. Shruti Choudhry is a former Member of Parliament from the Bhiwani-Mahendergarh parliamentary constituency.
